Seit Jahrzehnten ist Reichland nicht mehr von einer solchen Krise geschüttelt worden. Superreiche verarmen wirklich beispiellos. Und doch: es gibt tapfere und vorbildliche Philantrokapitalisten, die gerade in Zeiten der Verelendung und der Krise zusammenstehen und als Keimzelle des Guten wirken.
So die laut Independent vorgeblich 100 Milliardäre et.al. („In attendance will be 100 billionaires, captains of industry, celebrities and philanthropists„), die sich die Tage – am 3. März 2009 – laut Fabsugar und Hellomagazine oder Red Carpet Fashion Awards im Dorchester getroffen haben sollen und sich erfreut über die eingeladenen Vordermann, Jovovich und Stone und doch zugleich auch besorgt über die Armutsbevölkerung Afrikas beugten. Vivienne Westwood oder Paul Coelho waren auch dabei in der Runde des Fortune Forum, dem auch die guten Herren Clinton, Gore und Douglas angehörten. Ebenso Bill Waman, 72, genau, der Bursche von den Stones. Und mehr noch:
The Fortune Forum, a charity that convenes philanthropists including Britain’s richest man, Lakshmi Mittal, and Sir Tom Hunter, a „venture philanthropist“ who plans to give away hundreds of millions of pounds, claims the majority of the invited guests have an average net worth of $1bn and represent an untapped resource. With the incentive of tax breaks, high net worth individuals and their private companies will donate an extra £5bn a year to help meet the millennium goal, it claims.
Event mitsamt dem Fortune Forum wurden freilich von Lycos gehostet („The 3rd Fortune Forum Summit will take place on 3rd March 2009 in London. Speakers include; Ted Turner in conversation with Carol Vorderman, Paulo Coelho, Milla Jovovich, a dialogue between two Nobel prize-winning Economists; Sir James Mirrlees and Prof. Amartya Sen, a special performance by Joss Stone with UN Supporters showcasing their work at this special event ‘The UN and our Common Future’… „). Lycos schaltete dummerweise und trotz der angeblich 100 Milliardäre seinen Service am 28.2. ab. So wissen wir letztlich nicht, ob 100 Milliardäre plus im Dorchester waren. Jedenfalls waren Stelios Haji-Ioannou, der Gründer von easyJet, und Yusuf Islam, vormals Cat Stevens, auch da. Und:
„Saudi Prince al-Walid Bin Saud al-Saud, whose fortune is estimated at $17bn, rubbed shoulders with Vincent Tchenguiz, an Iranian property tycoon worth an estimated £200m. Richard Desmond, the publisher of the Daily Express, who has an estimated wealth of £1.9bn, was next to the Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova.“
Jedenfalls ging es darum, wie der bekannte Zustand eines der größten Armländer – eben Afrika – gesichert, das verbreite Reichenbashing gemindert und zugleich das leicht irritierte Politikmanagement Reichlands wieder in einen guten Zustand gebracht werden kann. Im Dorchester diskutierte man einen ganz simplen Vorschlag, der von der bekannt Reichlandfeindlichen Guardian-Gazette so skizziert wurde:
As the Guardian reported yesterday, Mehta enlisted the Nobel prize winning economist Sir James Mirrlees to come up with a plan to address the shaming statistic that Britain’s richest 20% donate 0.8% of their income to charity, while the poorest 20% give 3%. He duly concocted a tax proposal. To wit: 50% of money donated towards the UN’s millennium development goals through this scheme would be deducted from an individual or corporation’s tax liability (which is of course only 40% or 28% respectively), with the government making up the other 50% from its aid budget. Naturally, the super-rich donors would get to decide on what projects their money was spent. Let’s see that in action, shall we? The UK’s total overseas aid budget was £4.9bn in 2007-2008. Mehta suggests her scheme could persuade the super-rich to part with an extra £5bn a year, but of course the government is required to backmatch that notional sum, meaning that the entire aid budget would be swallowed up. What this means, effectively, is that control over the UK’s aid budget would pass from the Department for International Development to a bunch of private individuals.
Auch wenn der Vorschlag ob seiner doch krassen Dummheit z.B. bei der Financial Times leichte Irritationen hervorrief – Reichlands Güte ist unübertroffen.
