The motives behind the scene of privatizing the education sector: The European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT), one of the most powerful business lobbies in Europe, stepped out of the shadows last week when it hosted a ‚multi-stakeholder‘ meeting in Brussels. A hundred or so representatives from business, academia, education and government attended the event, including European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and the European Commissioner for Science and Research Janez Potocnik. The ERT insists on closer involvement of large corporations in Europe’s education systems and seems to have already convinced the Commission. Read more
